Introducing our daughter: Shiloh Hesed Haché
Born 1:48 pm on Thursday, Feb 11th.
She measured in at 10 lbs 7 oz and 21.5 inches long!
A little insight into her name…
Shiloh:
It is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is “His gift”. Also possibly “he who was sent”.
Biblical: a prophetic name for the Messiah.
Genesis 49:10-12
The scepter shall not depart [...]
What happens when a 3-year-old little boy gets up in the morning before his parents do?
I recently made these three birds to be flying over the ocean in my Humboldt County Quilt…
With two little ones in the house, I make a point to keep my scissors and rotary cutters up high, out of their reach. [...]
SUCCESS!!!!
It’s Friday, day five of potty training with Jakob – and he is doing wonderful!!! He has had one or two accidents a day, but the other %75 of the time, he had gone to the bathroom great! He even goes on his own, without being asked, jumping up saying, “I have to go, I [...]

Today is “Day One” of potty training Jakob. Well, it’s the first day of our current attempt. We’ve had a few other attempts, some days long and some just random times on the potty. When he was two and a half is when I first trying to see if he was ready. The promise of [...]
It’s that time again! My ultrasound confirmed this morning what we knew in faith - there is a little baby growing inside of me! Sure, I took a few tests in the past weeks and the double line showed up (indicating I’m pregnant), but until you hear that heartbeat or see the baby, it just [...]
This past mother’s day was definitely the best so far! It began a few days early when the FedEx man pulled up to my house and delivered fresh cut flowers for me!!! My parents sent me a beautiful bouquet of tulips with a note saying how proud of me they are. It was the first [...]
Up until a few months ago, home school was not at the top of my list. I generally had a “only if necessary” approach to the idea. Like, if we lived in a remote village in Asia – I would home school. Or, if we lived in a town where the school district was failing [...]
When I was getting ready to move to MN for college, dreams of snowboarding filled my mind. There was a ton of snow there right? My dreams were quickly dashed as I saw the low hills surrounding me and no mountains in site! The second winter I was in MN I thought I’d give it [...]
My family’s Quilt Shop (Scottie Dog Quilts) in California has done all kinds of “Block of the Month” programs over the years and I have finally just begun my first! They started a new one in January called, “Where the Redwoods meet the Sea”, a Humboldt County Quilt.”
I couldn’t resist this one – it’s [...]
Back in September, my mom bought me a souvenir magnet that says, “Prairie Mom”. We had just seen the theater production, Little House on the Prairie – which was full of nostalgia for us. My mom has a really nice set of the books that I read 3 or 4 times all [...]
Where do I start?
I feel like there is a lot of jumble in my head these days, so many directions my thoughts want to run. As a left-brained girl, my love of gab and desire for bullet points often collide. Today let’s make a list.
Jakob threw his pacifiers in the garbage!!!! His beloved pacifiers were [...]
October 28th marked 9 months old for Mercedes. She seems to have grown a lot lately – cruising all over the house and still full of bright eyes and smiles! Her favorite activity right now is climbing up the stairs, but she doesn’t quite know home to come down yet!
She went to see Dr. Johanson [...]
One of the fun parts of visiting with my mom is getting to sew! Being the daughter of a “sewing” mom, I learned to use her machine before I can remember. She brought me a few new projects (along with some super cute stuff she made; a new quilt for Jakob’s bed full of trucks, [...]
I think I used to feel the term “new mom” was for someone who recently had their first baby, maybe within 6 months – but definitely less than 12 months ago.
Now, almost 3 years into motherhood and two kids later, I have felt myself clinging to that title of “new mom.” There is so much [...]
Cool Fall days tempt the bugs to find warmth inside a home. Poor Mercedes recently found one of these, now a dead wasp, by our sliding glass door and tried to eat it (as she does with everything she can get her hands on). The result was a poke on her little lip by the [...]
