I think I used to feel the term “new mom” was for someone who recently had their first baby, maybe within 6 months – but definitely less than 12 months ago.

Now, almost 3 years into motherhood and two kids later, I have felt myself clinging to that title of “new mom.”  There is so much new territory, new things to learn (which is just my positive way of saying I so often feel lost and have no idea how to parent my kids!)  I want to hold on to the “new mom” hat because I need to know the grace for me each day. I’ve often said to myself, “It’s okay Beka, you’re new at this, don’t feel bad if you don’t have it all under control and don’t feel like it’s all coming naturally.”

I think we’re all meant to be life-long learners, until that day in eternity when we see in full, there is more to know, to learn, to discover about our Creator (which translates into discovering ourselves).

At the end of September, my mom’s group at church started back up for the year.  Our leader brought structure to the year with the verse Titus 2:4,5.

4  so that they {older women} may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,

5  to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.

We’re spending a month on each thing, with this month’s focus on loving our husbands.  It really has been incredible, my heart has been challenged and encouraged in so many ways.  As we wrapped up the month yesterday I realized how significant this foundation month of our year for mom’s group has been – Because as I learn to be a good mom, it really should start with being a wife.  Perhaps the best thing I can do for my kids is to love my husband.
